Campo Alla Cerqua 2016

Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG

Download

The poor soils and eastern exposure of Campo alla Cerqua produce a wine of grace and mineral driven complexity. Within the lineup, the wine stands out for its finer, silkier texture and its decadently perfumed aromatics.

Vineyard

Campo alla Cerqua is an 8ha, especially free-draining site composed of river pebbles. The soil is mineral rich, imparting a uniquely stony character to the final wine.

Winemaking

After a month-long maceration on its skins, the wine is aged for 36 months in French oak barrels. The wine the rests for 12 months in bottle before release.

Vintage

Like many Italian regions that year, 2016 proved to be a successful year, with enough rain and heat to elegantly ripen grapes across the area. A throughline of refreshing acidity pierces the wines, resulting in supremely ageable results.

Tasting Note

Typically bold, as Montefalco Sagrantino will always exhibit, the wine stands apart from most for its mineral driven complexity. Darker fruit on the palate of blackberry and black current mingle with a fine toned structure, presenting as silkier than the other wines in Tabarrini’s lineup.
