St. Supéry
Élu 2016
Napa Valley
Reflecting some of the best fruit from both their Dollarhide and Rutherford Estate vineyards, Élu is a beautifully textured Bordeaux blend showcasing the high growing quality of St Supéry’s holdings. The opulent style typically leads with Cabernet Sauvignon vintage to vintage, while incorporating various amounts of Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot.
Vineyard
The Dollarhide Vineyard is often referred to as a “valley within a valley”, featuring elevations ranging from 600 to 1,100 feet above sea level, seven different soil series, 13 soil variations and unique microclimates.
The Rutherford Estate vineyard surrounds the St Supéry winery on the eastern side of Highway 29, covering just over 50 acres. Located in the heart of Rutherford, the famed “dusty” style of the region permeates the wines with a distinctive character.
Winemaking
Warm fermentation and gentle cap maceration before an extended maceration period. 40% of the blend was barrel fermented. Aged in 48% new French oak for 19 months with regular movement of the barrels.
Vintage
One of the decade’s strongest vintages, with a warm spring, moderate summer, and cool fall. Wines from the year are muscular without any sappy weight, excellent quality overall and good yields.
Tasting Note
The opulent style typically leads with Cabernet Sauvignon vintage to vintage, while incorporating various amounts of Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. The fragrances of anise, graphite, dark cocoa, espresso and toasted barrel add extra depth and richness.
