A rarity in the Napa Valley, the Darioush Signature Viognier is fragrant, alluring an exotic. Sourced from the cooler vineyards of Oak Knoll where early morning fog and late afternoon breezes allow for slow, complete ripening of the signature bright and vibrant character full of effusive floral aromatics and a core of juicy stone fruit.
Winemaking
From harvest to bottling, the delicate viognier fruit is treated with minimal handling. After hand harvest, sorting and a gentle whole cluster press, the wine is fermented in 60% neutral oak and subsequently aged 7 months sur-lie.
Vintage
For California, the 2019 vintage looks set to be a good one. Spring saw heavy rains which raised the twin threats of mildew and coulure, however, a long summer was poised for the rescue delivering a succession of warm, sunny days with little in the way of heat spikes. The morning fog also helped serve as a useful cooling aid helping to preserve the essential acidities and aromatic flavors of the grapes. The long growing season allowed for an unhurried harvest.
Tasting Note
A testament to the vintage, the spirit of 2019 Signature Viognier unfolds quickly with a flourish of vibrant stone fruits, citrus, and tropical flowers. Summer nectarine flavors are rich, elegant as well as vivacious, with tangy, bright kumquat elevating the palate. Darioush Viognier maintains freshness and intrigue throughout a long finish with honeysuckle, orange blossoms and ginger enticing the senses.
