Since 2000, Thomas Fogarty Winery has produced Skyline Wines, utilizing long-standing relationships with some of the best grape growers to select quality fruit from heritage vineyards in different areas of California. Made without regimentation, with an open mind toward blending and varietal inclusion, Skyline Wines represent an unrestrained and innovative approach, using diverse varietals and providing the discerning wine lover excellent wines at a very fair price. Not limited by convention or tradition, these wines take full advantage of the creativity and innovative spirit found within the founders of Thomas Fogarty Winery.
Thomas Fogarty winery is one of the founding wineries in the Santa Cruz Mountains, tucked away amongst heritage oak and fir forests. Planted in 1976, they farm close to thirty acres of vines organically with almost no irrigation. Their wines, now made by the rising star Nathan Kandler, have been routinely heralded as benchmarks of the cool climate style. The Skyline label, reflecting the San Francisco Skyline opposite a line of redwood trees, points to the geography of the vineyards and winery, situated between the city and the mountains. We are pleased to have these wines in the VNY portfolio as they represent a slice of California heritage and a breath of fresh air amongst the droves of over-wrought wines in the affordable category.
The Skyline Artisan Red is a red wine blended from selected lots of wine primarily from the sandy soils of Lodi, offering a wine with a generous fruit profile, soft tannins and ample spice. As is true with every vintage, intensive blending creates an Artisan wine crafted for immediate accessibility and enjoyment.
Inspired by the wines of Fruili in Northern Italy and aged entirely in Stainless Steel, this wine balances it’s richness and fruit with bright acidity. The blend of Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc highlights the attributes of each, creating something greater than its components. Riesling brings weight, acidity and tropical fruit, while the touch of Sauvignon Blanc gives a lift of citrus fruit and herbal spice to this refreshing blend.
Nathan graduated from Fresno State with a degree in Enology in 2003 and worked at Testarossa in the Santa Cruz Mountains and Torbreck Winery in Australia’s Barossa Valley. Nathan has worked here since 2004 and became winemaker officially in 2012.
