Champagne Charges Forward, Propelled by Robust Economy

Champagne Bollinger U.S. Director, East Coast, Rafaella Fontes is quoted in trade publication IMPACT’s latest newsletter. The feature, “Champagne Charges Forward, Propelled by Robust Economy,” elaborates on how the Champagne market continues to grow in the U.S., despite the rise in popularity of more affordable sparkling wine options. While Champagne shipments in 2018 dropped globally by 1.8%, shipments in the U.S. actually increased by 4.5%. Rafaella is interviewed about whether she believes current sparkling wine consumers will begin to trade up to enjoy Champagne more often. “Today’s Prosecco drinkers who are accustomed to a daily or weekly dose of sparkling wines are positioned to become future Champagne consumers,” notes Fontes. She also elaborates on the trend of consumers and collectors seeking out older vintage champagnes.

Bollinger is one of the rare Grande Marques that’s still family owned. Known for its rich, elegant and polished style of Champagne, their outstanding wines are the result of rigorous attention to detail and incredibly labor-intensive practices that few houses are willing to undertake. Underscoring its excellence, Bollinger has remained British secret agent James Bond's Champagne of choice since 1973.
